No. 6/6 Knights Open A-R-C Tournament With 46-42 Win Over Dubuque

WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 6/6 women's basketball opened postseason play with a 46-42 win at home over the University of Dubuque in an American Rivers Conference Tournament Semifinal matchup. Wartburg advances to the A-R-C Tournament final against No. 17/20 Loras College on Saturday, Feb. 24 and moves to 24-2 overall.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • UD started off the scoring with an early layup, but the Knights responded with a 12-0 run over the next five minutes
      • Dubuque stopped the run with a basket to make it 12-4 with just under five minutes remaining in the quarter
      • Young made her second three of the quarter to make it 15-4 but UD scored the next five to make it a six-point game with 2:11 left in the first
      • Macy Harris and Woeste both scored two points to make the score 19-11 to end the first
    • Second Quarter
      • After a minute of scoreless play, Faber made a driving layup to make the score 21-11
      • The next made shot came from Lauren Golinghorst with 6:53 left in the half to put Wartburg ahead 23-11
      • Young connected from deep for the third time in the half but UD answered a minute later to make the score 26-14 with 3:08 remaining in the first half
      • Both Murphy and Harris scored in the final minutes, but the Spartans closed the half on a 4-0 run to make the score 30-18 at the break
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • Murphy got the scoring started in the second half with a layup and then UD again scored the next four points in the contest
      • UD cut the lead to 10 with 6:50 left in the third before a Woeste layup ended the Wartburg draught and made the score 34-22 with just over six minutes to go in the quarter
      • After over two minutes of scoreless play, UD scored the next five points all at the free throw line to cut the lead to 34-27
      • Each team traded made free throws to end the quarter and Wartburg led 38-29 headed to the fourth
    • Fourth Quarter
      • UD came out with three made baskets to start the fourth quarter on a 7-4 run
        • Both Woeste and Murphy scored for the Knights
      • Murphy found an open Woeste for a layup that put Wartburg ahead 44-36 with 5:39 left to play
      • A Taylor Runchey free throw was the only point scored by the Knights over the next thee minutes and UD closed the lead to six with just over two minutes to play
      • UD connected from three with under a minute left to make it a one-score game, but the Knights defense stood strong and held for out a 46-42 win
