WAVERLY, Iowa -- The Wartburg women's wrestling team (2-0 overall) dominated its home opener on Friday night, winning eight of ten contested bouts in a strong showing against UW–Stevens Point (3-1 overall). The Knights used four tech falls and a pair of pins to guide a 35-11 victory over the Pointers.
Wartburg opened the dual with back-to-back wins, starting at 103 lbs, where
Chloe Sheffield earned a forfeit victory. At 110 lbs,
Ava Gardner wasted no time, rolling to a 10-0 tech fall in just 35 seconds.
The Knights continued their momentum at 117 lbs, with
Jasmine Luedtke grinding out a 5-2 decision. UWSP earned its first win at 124 lbs, as
Leah Chandler fell by tech fall.
Wartburg responded with a string of dominant performances in the middle weights. At 131 lbs, Mackenzie Childers pinned her opponent in 1:22, followed by another tech fall at 138 lbs from
Kylie Rule, who cruised to a 10-0 win in 2:29.
At 145 lbs,
Aniyah Kelly kept the offense rolling with a 14-1 tech fall, and
May Prado added a 10-0 tech at 160 lbs.
UW–Stevens Point collected its second victory at 180 lbs due to injury, but Wartburg closed the night in emphatic fashion at 207 lbs, where
Rewa Chababo secured a fall at 2:11.
