LAS VEGAS, Nev.  -- The No. 16-ranked Wartburg women's wrestling team (5-1 overall) knocked off a pair of top 10-nationally ranked opponents in a 2-1 week at the 2025 Desert Duals.  

The Knights fended off No. 8 Simon Fraser, 24-22, in the opener and followed with a 26-17 rout over No. 5 Colorado Mesa. No. 3 Grand Valley State spoiled the trifecta with a 38-7 win over Wartburg in the closing match.  

The Knights opened the day with a hard-fought 28-26 victory over No. 8 Simon Fraser, earning five bout wins in a closely contested dual. Wartburg jumped out to an early lead with a forfeit at 103 pounds, followed by a fall from Afftynn Stusse at 110. Gable Hemann added a technical fall at 117, and Sophie Bowers secured a critical decision at 124. After Simon Fraser countered with a series of bonus-point wins, the Knights regained momentum behind a technical fall from May Prado at 160. Rewa Chababo closed the dual with a shutout decision at 207 to seal the two-point win. 

In round three, Wartburg continued its strong showing with a 26-17 victory over No. 5 Colorado Mesa. The Knights claimed six bout victories, highlighted by falls from Stusse at 110 and Kaydence Boorn at 138. Hemann and Mackenzie Childers contributed technical falls at 117 and 131, respectively, while Prado added a decision at 160. Chababo once again anchored the lineup at 207, earning a decision to clinch the dual. 
Wartburg wrapped up the day against Grand Valley State, dropping a 38-7 decision. Aniyah Kelly provided the Knights' lone win with a first-period fall at 145 pounds.  
 
NOTES 
The Knights are now 8-7 all-time against ranked foes...With a pair of victories today, Wartburg has gained is second-most wins in program history, only trailing last season's seven...Prado put up the second-most single match point outing (18).

The Knights take time off to prepare for the NWCA National Duals taking place in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Friday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 10.
