CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Wartburg senior specialist Jaxson Hoppes has been named the American Rivers Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced Monday.
Hoppes made history in the Knights' 27-13 road victory at Simpson, launching an 84-yard punt that sits just shy of one the longest in NCAA Division III history. The kick, downed at the one-yard line, shattered Wartburg's previous school record of 64 yards set in 2013 against Buena Vista.
The Waterloo, Iowa, native finished with six punts for 266 yards (44.3 average), pinning three inside the 10-yard line. He also handled kickoff duties, recording five kicks for 293 yards (58.6 average), including two touchbacks.
Hoppes currently ranks second in the A-R-C in punting (41.3 average), a mark that places him inside the top 25 nationally.
