MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The No. 13-ranked Wartburg women's wrestling team improved to 10-1 on the season with a 24-13 dual victory over Cornell on Wednesday evening at the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
The dual opened with double forfeits at 103 and 110 pounds before the Knights struck first on the mat.
Hope Chiattello earned a hard-fought 4-2 decision over Cheyenne Mulford at 117 pounds to give Wartburg the early edge.
Wartburg extended its lead through the middle of the lineup, as
Ayane Jasinski (124) and
Leah Chandler (131) both collected wins by forfeit. At 138 pounds,
Rachel Fode delivered bonus points with a 10-0 technical fall over Averi Burke in just 1:31.
Cornell responded at 145 and 160 pounds with technical falls from Graciela Juarez and Olivia Cotton, trimming the deficit heading into the upper weights.
Erika Peterson helped secure the team victory for the Knights at 180 pounds, recording a 13-3 technical fall over Sidney Zimmerman. The dual concluded at 207 pounds, where Cornell's Tori Maxey earned a 2-2 decision over
Elizabeth Kalinay, determined by tiebreaker criteria.
