Women’s Wrestling Secures Program-Best 11th Place At 2026 NCAA NC Championships

CORALVILLE, Iowa -- The Wartburg College women's wrestling team capped a historic season with an 11th-place finish and 39.5 team points at the inaugural 2026 NCAA National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships inside Xtream Arena.

The Knights recorded their highest finish and largest team-point total at a national championship meet. Wartburg was also one of three Division III programs to place inside the top 15 of the team standings, joining North Central College (3rd) and Aurora University (13th).

Senior Rewa Chababo led the Knights with a third-place finish at 207 pounds, securing the bronze medal with a hard-fought 2-1 decision over K. Osteen (Iowa). Chababo totaled 12.5 team points with each of her victories coming by fall, including two pins against Osteen during the tournament. She wrapped up her final season with a 32-3 record and a 4-1 mark at the national championships.

Junior Kylie Rule earned her second career All-American honor with a fifth-place finish at 138 pounds. Rule finished the weekend with a 4-2 record, highlighted by two technical falls and a pin. After dropping into the consolation bracket, she responded with back-to-back wins to advance to the consolation semifinals before securing fifth place with a 7-2 decision over J. Espinosa (Lindenwood). Rule contributed 12.5 team points and closed her season at 28-7 overall.

Freshman Gable Hemann added another All-American performance for Wartburg, placing eighth at 117 pounds. Hemann recorded three pins in the consolation rounds to total 10.5 team points. She concluded her freshman campaign with a 28-10 record and led the team with 13 falls.

Hemann opened the third consolation round against C. Czerneski (Adrian). After trailing 5-0 following the first period, Hemann cut the deficit to three with a takedown midway through the second. Czerneski held on for a 7-2 decision to halt Hemann's run after three consecutive pins earlier in the consolation bracket.

Rule advanced to the consolation semifinals with a 10-2 decision over R. Julien-Newsom (King). Following a loss to L. Luft (Iowa) in the consolation semifinals, Rule rebounded to secure fifth place with a 7-2 victory against Espinosa.

Chababo suffered just her third loss of the season in the championship semifinals to top-ranked T. Kelly (McKendree). The senior responded by earning two decision victories in the consolation bracket, defeating J. Sekona (Colorado Mesa) before topping Osteen again in the third-place match.

A total of 52 institutions and 180 athletes competed in the first-ever NCAA National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships, with the top eight finishers in each weight class earning All-American honors.
