WAVERLY, Iowa—The ninth-ranked Wartburg women’s soccer team (12-1-2 overall, 5-0-1 IIAC) defeated Iowa Conference opponent, Cornell (5-12-0, 1-5-0) in shutout fashion Wednesday night, 7-0.

Sophomore Anna Aquino (Bettendorf) and junior Cathy Reiter (La Porte City) led the team with four points. Aquino had one goal and three assists while Reiter had two goals.

Junior Krista Pederson (Martelle) and senior Katy Wendt (Bettendorf) followed closely behind with three points each.
Pederson had one goal and one assist while Wendt tallied three assists. Wendt was one assist shy of tying the single-game school record of four.

Aquino put the Knights on the board at 3:26 as her corner kick dribbled in past the Ram’s goalkeeper.

Sophomore Rachel Torry (Urbandale) connected on a pass from Wendt just over a minute later to take the 2-0 lead. Reiter headed Aquino’s corner kick two minutes later to make the score 3-0.

Reiter and Aquino would repeat their play at 11:12 to extend the margin to four.

Freshman Ashley Frush (La Porte City) put her shot attempt at 24:43 into the upper left corner of the back of the net. Wendt was credited with the assist.

Wendt completed her day at 51:20 as she fed a pass to Pederson who beat the goalie one-on-one at 51:20.

Senior Chelsea Frye (Waverly) netted the final goal at 65:52 on a pass from Pederson.

Sophomore Monica Noti (Carol Stream, Ill.) recorded her sixth shutout win of the season with her 90 minutes in the net.

The Orange and Black return to the field Saturday when they travel to face Iowa Conference opponent, Coe at 1 p.m.
