Knights Narrowly Fall IIAC Tournament Title Game

DUBUQUE, Iowa—The ninth-ranked Wartburg women’s soccer team (16-2-2 overall) narrowly fell 2-1 in the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship game Saturday against  13th ranked Loras (17-2-1). The Knights were the No. 2 seed and the Duhawks were the top seed in the tournament.

The game remained scoreless through the first half.

Jessica Kern put the Duhawks on the board with her goal four minutes into the second half on her penalty kick attempt.

Danielle Vujovic netted Loras' second goal at 56:03 as she headed in a free kick.

Senior Katy Wendt (Bettendorf) scored the Knights' lone goal of the game at 62:09.

With the win, the Duhawks received the automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament.

Wartburg will await word Monday for the complete NCAA Tournament field. The selection show is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
