Knights Open Season in Shutout Fashion

RIVER FALLS, Wis.-- The Wartburg women's soccer team started the season strongly with its 4-0 shutout victory over UW-River Falls Friday.

Senior Kaylee Benning (Waverly) set a career-high with her two goals on the day. Her first goal at 30:18 put the Knights on the board and her second goal at 61:03 extended the margin.

Classmates Krista Pederson (Martelle) and Lindsey Boyke (Verona, Wis.) scored goals for the Orange and Black at 69:55 and 76:14, respectively.

Boyke finished with three points in the game as she had the assist on Benning's first goal.

Sophomore Brinkly Werkman (Marion) and freshman Brittany Frush (LaPorte City) had the assist on Pederson and Boyke's goal, respectively.

Senior Monica Noti (Carol Stream, Ill.) tallied her first shutout victory of the season and 16th for her career to extend her lead as the all-time leader for the program in this category.

Wartburg returns to action Sunday in the home opener against Carleton College at 3 p.m.
