Wright Wins 400-Meter Hurdles at Drake Relays Saturday

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Wartburg College track & field team wrapped up competition at the 2021 Drake Relays on Saturday, April 24 at Drake Stadium.

Dallas Wright headlined Wartburg's Saturday performance, winning the college division men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.52, a Wartburg top 10 time. Teammate Riley Barrett finished 15th with a mark of 56.06.

Curren Matthias and Liam Conroy kicked off the day for the Knights in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, with Matthias setting a Wartburg top 10 time at 9:26.20 for a seventh place finish of 18 runners. Conroy finished 14th at 9:44.48.

Carson McSorley was the first Wartburg women's athlete to race, turning in a solid performance in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.31 for a sixth place finish of 12.

Aubrie Fisher followed in the 800-meter run. Her time of 2:17.63 was good for eighth place of 22 runners.

The Wartburg men had three distance runners compete in the 800-meter run, led by Wyatt Schmidt's sixth place time of 1:52.58. Dalton Martin trailed Schmidt in seventh at 1:53.02, along with Matt Heinzman finishing 21st at 1:56.67.

Men's sprinters Deyton Love and Derrick Smith took part in the 110-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, respectively. Love took sixth at 15.08, while Smith ran the 200m in 22.24 for 10th of 16.

A trio of women's jumpers competed Friday morning, led by Breya Christopher's third place high jump of five feet, five inches, finishing third of 12 athletes.

Shaniah Johnson and Daekota Knott participated in the triple jump, taking seventh (37-7.25) and 10th (34-9.75), respectively.

Wartburg capped off competition at the blue oval racing in three relays each for the men and women: shuttle hurdles, 4x100-meter, and the 4x400-meter. THURSDAY RECAP
