Wartburg at U20 World Team Trials

SPOKANE, Wash.— Four members of the Wartburg women's wrestling team competed at the U20 World Team Trials this past weekend. The student-athletes competed under The Burg Training Center Club.

"What an amazing experience our wrestlers got to experience," said head coach Brady Kyner. "I was very impressed with how we competed and executed positions we have focused on these past few weeks. Our athletes went out and competed to the expectation we expect, so we are happy with that!"

Wartburg's results:
U20 59 kgs: Kylie Rule took seventh place. She went 6-2.
U20 65 kgs: Aniyah Kelly went 3-3
U20 72 kgs: Randi Nicholson went 0-1 and Erika Peterson went 0-2.

Kyner's comments:
  • Kylie wrestled a great tournament after first round loss, rattling off five consecutive wins to earn her first All-American status at this tournament. She has fallen short in all her previous five trips here, so it was a great feeling to see her accomplish this. In route, she avenged a loss from the National Tournament.

  • Aniyah keeps getting closer and closer. We are excited to see the growth she keeps making leading to next season. Aniyah fell in the blood round, falling just short of All-American status.

  • Erika and Randi fell short of getting their hand raised this weekend wrestling some of the best girls in the country. We saw the best wrestling from both Erika and Randi thus far in their young career at Wartburg!
