WAVERLY, Iowa—Gunnar Wolfensperger has been named the assistant coach under women's wrestling head coach
Brady Kyner, as announced today.
"We are fired up to announce the addition of Gunnar Wolfensperger as our head assistant coach for our women's wrestling program," said Kyner. "Gunnar exceeded all expectations this past season in his volunteer role and we are thrilled to have him join our staff full-time. His commitment to mentoring, developing, and genuinely caring for our student-athletes has been exceptional and truly sets him apart.
"In just one season, Gunnar has made a remarkable impact on our athletes and the program as a whole," continued Kyner. "His experience and leadership are invaluable assets that will continue to drive the growth of Wartburg Women's Wrestling and empower our athletes to reach their full potential on and off the mat."
Wolfensperger has served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Wartburg men's wrestling program for the past five seasons and with the women's wrestling program this past season.

"I'm looking forward to continuing the great wrestling tradition Wartburg has as it is a great motivator and constant reminder to keep striving for improvement and success. It starts with finding the right recruits that encompass discipline, dedication, and integrity in all aspects of life. Women's wrestling is a fast-growing and evolving sport that I'm excited to be a part of."
Wolfensperger was previously an assistant coach for men's wrestling at Simpson College from 2019-20. Prior to Simpson, he was the assistant boy's wrestling coach at Denver High School for three years, as well as the strength and conditioning coach for two of those years.
As a student-athlete, Wolfensperger was a three-year member of the men's wrestling team at the University of Northern Iowa.
The Denver, Iowa native was a state champion at Denver High School and helped the Cyclones to two state championships and one runner-up finish.
He earned his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from UNI in 2016.
Wolfensperger will begin his duties at Wartburg on May 5.
