Buenning was a four-year letterman for head basketball coach Fred Jaspers’ teams from 1960 to 1964. He concluded his career with 981 points and 944 rebounds in 93 games. He still holds the single-game rebound record with a remarkable 34 boards against rival Luther during the 1963-64 campaign. Al and his wife, Janice (Howard ’65), still play an integral role at the college, where he serves as a senior development officer.  They are the parents of Jason, Hans, Cub, and Nick and grandparents of Ivey and Tatum.
