Smith’s claim to fame was on the wrestling mat at Wartburg. He was a three-time All-American, two-time NCAA Division III champion and wrestled on the 1996 national championship squad. A three-time all-Iowa Conference honoree, Smith was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the 1997 conference championships. The 1996 U.S. Olympic freestyle trials qualifier adds the Wartburg College athletic Hall of Fame honor to his 2004 Division III National Wrestling Coaches Association honor. His is also a former Knights’ wrestling assistant coach.  He now works at Lenox Community High School as a physical education and Spanish teacher.
