Colton is considered one of the last three-sport lettermen at Wartburg. His athletic accomplishments include twice placing in the top four at the Iowa Conference track meet in the 440-yard dash. He won the league wrestling title in 1978 with a 20-3 record. In football, he placed first or second in rushing in each of his four seasons. Colton also excelled academically, earning the Lynes-Koob award for Outstanding Student Football Athlete in 1977 and the Voecks Award for Outstanding Student-Athlete in 1978. After passing the CPA exam on his first try, Colton worked for 22 years as a financial analyst and manager for Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies. He retired in the fall of 2001 and continues to live in Fort Collins.
