Erickson was a starting guard on three Iowa Conference championship basketball teams and the starting catcher for three years in baseball, earning All-American honors from the NAIA in baseball.
He was named honorable mention All-Conference in basketball in 1969 and 1970. In baseball, he was AlI¬District 15 NAIA in 1968, first team All-IIAC in 1969, and second team AlI¬IIAC in 1970.

Wartburg compiled a 73-7 record during Erickson's three years as starting
guard in basketball and was 35-34 in baseball. In his junior year of baseball, he hit .446 and ranked 23rd in the nation, winning the Adirondack "Big Stick" award for Area 4 of the NAIA. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and played in Sarasota, Fla.

He then coached and taught at Springville and Waterloo Columbus, making state tournament appearances in both basketball and golf He also won the Blackhawk County Gold Star Teacher Award. Erickson is a retired English teacher.
