Karen Baumgartner Rogers ’86
Springfield, Illinois

Baumgartner set a strong standard for women’s track and field and cross country. She was a seven-time letter-winner between the two sports, a team Most Valuable Athlete in cross country in 1983 and in track and field in 1985 and 1986, and qualified for nationals in track in 1985 and 1986. A two-time all-Iowa Conference cross country honoree and two-time champion in the 1986 league track and field championships, Baumgartner still runs. She has been named the Springfield, Ill., Road Runner of the Year 10 times since 1988. Baumgartner is a first-grade teacher. She and her husband, Jay, and children, Lindsay and Michael, reside in Springfield.
