He was a four-year member of the wrestling team. He was a three-time All-American and was Wartburg’s first heavyweight individual national champion in 2003. He was a two-time Iowa Conference champion as Wartburg claimed the league title in each of his four years. The 2003 wrestling team won the NCAA Division III national championship and set four NCAA team records. He served three years as an officer in the U.S. Navy and is currently a lieutenant in the Navy reserves. Gardner lives in Katy, Texas, where he owns and operates three fitness facilities.
