Matt Thede ’01

Thede was a four-year member of the baseball team where he played in 156 games, had a .410 lifetime batting average. He is the program’s all-time leader with his .715 slugging percentage and 28 home runs. He was twice named the Iowa Conference MVP, was a four-time All-Conference selection and still holds the conference record with 45 RBIs in 2000.  Thede was a two-time All-American and Regional MVP. He signed a contract with the Montreal Expos as a catcher in 2001 and played three seasons in their minor league system. Thede resides in Ely and is a biology teacher and baseball coach at Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids.
