Greg Schmitz ’83
New Hartford, Iowa

Schmitz earned a combined seven letters in basketball and baseball. He was a two-time all-Iowa Conference player on the hardwood and earned the program’s best defensive player award three years. His baseball career included first team all-league honors as a utility pitcher in 1982 and a 9-7 all-time pitching record. Schmitz is employed by VGM, Inc. as president of education in Waterloo. He and his wife, Lisa Koop ’85, organize and coach several youth sports teams and serve on numerous community service club boards. They are the parents of five children, including two Wartburg graduates, Gregory ’06 and Lindsay ’09.
