Howard Wolfgram '51
Maynard, Iowa
Pastor, Zion Lutheran Church

Wolfgram was one of Wartburg's early wrestling greats. He won three Iowa Conference championships at two different weights and made it through the first four rounds in try-outs for the 1952 U.S. Olympic Team.

He won the IIAC title at 146 in 1948 and at 155 in both 1949 and 1950. In 1949, he was undefeated with an 11-0 record.
After graduating from Wartburg, he won the Paul Walker trophy as the outstanding wrestler in the San Diego, California, area in 1952. That same year, he tried out for the U.S. Olympic team and was successful until meeting James LaRock, who was an alternate on an Olympic team that only had eight team members. Wolfgram now resides in Maynard after retiring as a parish pastor.
